Whether you seek thrilling surf breaks or secluded coves for intimate picnics, Kauai's beaches promise an unforgettable escape into paradise's embrace. We have assembled the below list of our favorite Kaua’i beaches.
Poipu Beach
Poipu Beach stands out as a premier destination on Kauai for its stunning beauty and diverse offerings. Renowned for its golden sands and clear waters, it's perfect for swimming, snorkeling, and sunbathing. The trifecta! The beach's calm, protected coves make it ideal for families and those seeking a relaxing day by the sea. Nearby amenities such as restaurants and shops ensure convenience, while its picturesque surroundings, including occasional visits from Hawaiian monk seals, add to its allure as a must-visit spot on the island.
Lydgate Park
Located on the Eastern coastline of Kauai, Lydgate Park is often hailed as the most family-friendly beach on Kauai. Two rock wall wave breaks just offshore create tranquil saltwater ponds for beachgoers to swim in without the worry of getting hit by a wave or being pulled by strong currents. Shallow and clear water make this beach an ideal place to learn to snorkel. Kamalani Playground across the street is also a huge hit with the kids as there are plenty of unique structures and obstacles to play on.
Hanalei Bay
One of the most photographed beaches in the world is located along the north shore of Kauai at Hanalei Bay. Sit on the sprawling white side beach and watch the waves roll in as towering green mountain ridges paint the coastline. The setting is truly out of a movie scene. After a day at the beach, explore the quirky surf town of Hanalei for window shopping and tasty restaurant options.
Glass Beach
This beach located about 10 minutes from the Lodge at Kukui’ula has made a name for itself over the last few years. The beach is located in a remote industrial park and is not much to look at from afar. But as you track down onto the sand you start to realize it is full of color and texture. An old dump nearby is responsible for why thousands of fragments of sea glass have washed up on this strip of coastline. We only ask that you don’t take any glass with you, so others can continue to enjoy this beautiful hidden gem.
Ke’e Beach
During the summer months on Kauai the water at Ke’e Beach can be crystal clear. Reef formations that run along the coast and offshore block waves from reaching the shore. Swim in the tranquil waters located at the end of the road north, which officially starts the spectacular Napali Coast. A nearby cave system will be impossible to miss as you approach the beach. Adventurers will enjoy spending a few minutes harnessing their inner Indiana Jones exploring the cave.
Salt Pond Beach Park
About 15 minutes west of The Lodge at Kukui’ula is the popular Salt Pond Beach. A great option for families due to nearly year-round calm waters, Salt Pond also has plenty of tidepools that the kids will love looking through. Search for shells, discover sea urchins, and hunt for hermit crabs in the shallow depths. The active outdoorsman may consider camping a night or two here as there are designated camping areas you can reserve by permit. Onsite bathrooms, showers, and pavilions make this an ideal oceanfront campground.
Polihale State Park
You have to put in the effort to get to this beach! Located on the westernmost tip of Kauai, after driving a few slow miles on dirt roads and around potholes, you will arrive at a stunning stretch of sandy coastline that extends as far as the eye can see. Because the beach is so expansive, 4X4 vehicles are allowed to drive along the coastline. Head here for sunset as locals often describe the colorful views as the best on the island. Heed caution when swimming here as there are very strong currents and riptides that can pull swimmers out to sea. If lucky, you can splash around in a large tidepool that sometimes forms in the sand called Queens Pond.
